On Thursday Kiama MP Gareth Ward released a statement claiming people from Wollongong and Shellharbour, south of Sydney, could travel to regional areas - as long as they go back home on the same day.
"In response to my questions the NSW Government has advised that travel between regional NSW and Greater Sydney will be permissible for fully vaccinated people from next Monday so long as that travel isn't for the purposes of a holiday," Mr Ward said.
"In surprising news, the NSW Government has confirmed that this easing of restrictions applies for all of NSW not just regional people."
That message was backed up by new Nationals leader Paul Toole's office, who told ABC Illawarra on Thursday that vaccinated people in Greater Sydney could take a day trip to regional areas.
However, this morning Mr Toole made a U-turn and told media that Greater Sydney residents could not go to regional areas for any reason at all.

South Coast MP Shelley Hancock rushed to her Facebook page on Friday morning to further clarify the issue.
"Let me be clear - travel from Greater Sydney to Regional NSW will NOT be allowed from Monday October 11, even for day trips," Mrs Hancock wrote.
"Similar, Regional NSW will not be able to travel to Greater Sydney. Travel between the two will only be permitted once we reach 80 per cent fully vaccinated. From Monday however, Regional LGAs are able to travel to other Regional LGAs."
