Without improvements to Bells Line of Road, a faster, safer, more reliable road to Sydney depends upon the new Government of NSW doing a full and independent evaluation of extending the Mt Victoria - Blackheath tunnel through to Katoomba. Lithgow doesn't want second best and the Government doesn't want to be part of any shoddy election-based solutions where other options are ignored.

The GWH Upgrade Project included community and stakeholder consultation. That consultation delivered a community supported, professionally engineered alternative option that will slash travel times and ease travel for all drivers; it will not require years of roadworks along the GWH; it will not hamper tourism by causing the weekend bottlenecks and traffic chaos during the construction phase. The confirmed cost of simply extending the tunnel is a lot cheaper than expected and provides far better returns on investment for both NSW and Federal Governments.
Communities have welcomed Mr Joyce and Mr Toole to their new positions. We all look forward to them building on the GWH feedback already received from stakeholders. We look forward to them ensuring that fair and proper government processes are followed and that all options are considered. We look forward to an upgrade to the GWH that will meet the needs of Lithgow, the Central West, the state of NSW and the economy for years to come.
It should become a statesman-like project that will be praise-worthy for years to come.
