In recognition of her hard work Carmel's daughters Amy and Gabrielle, reached out to the Lithgow Mercury to wish their mother a happy retirement.
Over the years Carmel has touched the hearts of many Lithgow residents and their families.
For 26 years she worked as a registered nurse and midwife in the hospital setting before commencing her role in the community as a child and family health nurse, community midwife and lactation consultant for the last 23 years.
Carmel operated clinics in Wallerawang, Kandos and Rylstone for many years and it was of great importance to her.
"These clinics no longer run however mum continued to run a weekly clinic in Portland," Amy said.
"Since retiring she is concerned that these clinics will close but she insists that the mothers and babies of these communities deserve this service and mum encourages the community to advocate strongly to ensure they continue to operate," Gabrielle said.

Amy and Gabrielle said Carmel was extremely grateful for the career she has had.
"She absolutely loved her job and found it extremely rewarding," Gabrielle said.
"The thing Carmel always enjoyed most about her work, was the relationships she formed with the mothers and families she supported," Amy said.
Carmel's family have immeasurable pride for the work she has done.
At times Carmel has been referred to as 'the baby whisperer' and this affectionate reference is a great homage to the influence she has had on so many families in the greater Lithgow community.
