All councillors have been emailed and each will get their chance to speak on why they believe they should be voted back in to represent the community.
First up is councillor Cassandra Coleman and this is what she had to say:
"I was elected in 2016 to Lithgow City Council, which was five years ago, I absolutely love Local Government; it directly improves and affects people's daily lives.
Over the last five years, I submitted numerous notices of motion to the Council, and worked with key stakeholders and community members for the benefit of the wider community.
The following is only a small snapshot of what I have been able to deliver in my term on Council:
- A report to Council on the benefits of championing the school-based Apprenticeship and Traineeship scheme at Lithgow City Council in as wide a range of professions as possible.
- Initiated the review of the local procurement policy for tendering, seeking improvements that give greater opportunities for our local businesses, contractors, and suppliers to deliver projects and services in our local area.
- Worked in partnerships with key stakeholders such as the NSW Rural Fire Service, SES, Fire and Rescue NSW, and various government ministers and representatives. The Bushfire Expo included presentations by the NSW Rural Fire Service, Lithgow Council, SES, Fire and Rescue NSW, and a talk from the Indigenous community about traditional Indigenous fire management known as cool and quick burns. It helped the Lithgow Local Government Area become more prepared and resilient in the face of potential future bushfires.
I also established the Lithgow City Council Women's Advisory Committee, which focuses on improving women and children's lives across the Local Government Area. The committee provides advice to Council on issues relevant to women.
For me, the jewel in the crown is the construction of a culvert in the vicinity of the Vale of Clwydd to ensure that a family of six children who were experiencing post-fire flooding didn't risk serious injury.
Every day, I am motivated to do my best, actively looking for ways to improve residents' lives across the Greater City of Lithgow by providing high quality service.
