Minister for Education and Youth Alan Tudge said more than $100 million had been allocated from the latest round of the federal government's ongoing Community Child Care Fund scheme.

The fund is a grant opportunity for approved services which is designed to help keep childcare centres open, improve access to childcare, particularly for families from disadvantaged backgrounds, and increase workforce participation.

"In some remote areas, there may only be one or two childcare services operating and it is critical we keep these open so families can access the care they need," the minister said.

"The funding also helps services to run initiatives that reduce barriers which may otherwise prevent local kids from accessing care.

"This program is good for families, good for communities and benefits local economies by allowing more parents to get back into work or to take on additional hours if they chose."

The federal government said thousands of families in regional areas would benefit from the $100 million grant allocation.

The Community Child Care Fund has now provided more than $220 million to more than 1,000 childcare services in disadvantaged and vulnerable communities since 2018.

The names of the childcare services will be announced next week.
