Acting president Sue Hardwick said she stepped up and tried to do her best and was glad that so many organisations could get funding.
"The pensioners association has been together for so long and while it is sad that our little group is coming to an end, I hope we can still see each other and stay friends," she said.
"We are lucky enough to be able to give out some much needed funds to groups that tend to get looked over but do so much for our community, and we also have enough money in the trust for a bigger project down the track."
The groups that received part of the $300,000 in funding included:
- Portland District Car Club
- Portland SES: Buy TV, do online training, get new laptops, do up office furniture
- Portland RFS: Bought cages for uniforms to hang up in
- Portland Golf Club: As their kitchen fills up with rain they will get a new roof
- Portland CWA: Air conditioning, security doors, block out blinds, carpet and new toilets
- Portland Bowling Club: Improvements to the kitchen, toilet and showers
- Portland Tidy Towns: Beautification of Portland's Main Street
- Blinky Bills Preschool: Renovate outdoor shed into specialist, multi purpose building for all family needs
- Portland's Glen Museum: Move Charlie Pinch collection and catalogue it
- Portland Men's Shed: Mick Moore pavilion renovations including a new roof, concrete, paint, put electrical in and more
- Portland Pool: Renovations in kitchen and entry area
- Portland Quilters: Buy sewing machines and materials
- Sister Mary O'Leary Centre: New carpet in building
- Portland Fusion Easter Festival: To hold Easter Festival 2022 for free
- Portland Wallnuts
Committee member Maree Statham said that it was a privilege to have been asked to be part of this committee.
"They purchased the building in 1977 and it had become their own, so to distribute such a large sum of money to the community is so generous," she said.
