Brothers Zeke Evans, 17, and Hutch Evans, 15, recently proved just why they're good at what they do after being named Most Valuable Players at the NSW Combined High Schools Sports Association (NSWCHSSA) Championships.
Held in Tamworth over three days in April, the boys represented Lithgow High School and played six games, coming up against quality teams from Sydney and the Hunter region.
Zeke was named MVP in the tournament while Hutch was named MVP in the Western team.
"I think just from the way I played over the three days and how our team tried our best coming up against some intense competition is why I got MVP," Zeke said.
"I'm grateful to have been named most valued player and it was really nice to come home with that."
Hutch said he loved playing in a team and thought his performance in the championship displayed his teamwork which was why he was honoured with an MVP title.
Zeke said another tournament highlight for him was beating Sydney South West by 30 points.
"It was surprising because they're a quality team so that was definitely a highlight," he said.
Following on from the NSWCHSSA Championships Zeke flew out to Mackay on Saturday, May 1 for the U20s Nationals.
"It's the team I made last year in U18s but the competition was cancelled because of COVID," Zeke said.
"I went to three or four trials and worked my way through the trialling system to be selected and I'm very excited for it."
Zeke and Hutch said they loved everything about basketball and wanted to thank their parents for their continued support.
Proud dad Phil Evans commended his sons on their success.
"I'm very proud of them and their effort and just the work they've put into basketball from a young age.
"They keep working hard for it and that's why they're where they are," he said.
