The Lithgow Mercury has put together a guide for what you can do and what's happening around town this Anzac Day.
Portland Anzac Service
Portland RSL Club will be holding ANZAC Day remembrance ceremonies with a COVID safe plan in place.
There will be a Dawn Service at 6am on Sunday, April 25.
A breakfast will then be held in the park after the dawn service.
A march will then take place at 11am, with service men and women encouraged to take part.
Entertainment by The Fabulous Shapelles will be at the RSL Club from 5pm until 8.30pm.
How to commemorate at home
Record yourself reciting the ode or sharing a message of support for veterans, light up the dawn (driveway tribute at 6am or 11am), tune into live commemorative services, reach out to a mate who might be alone and donate to the ANZAC Appeal online.
TWO-UP
Lithgow Workies Club will host Two-Up from 1.30pm in the showroom.
There will also be a bistro special on a 400g rump steak with fried egg and bacon, served with a side of chips and vegetables or salad.
Anzac Day Gallery at Lithgow Library
April 12 - May 4
The Lithgow Library will be presenting a gallery of Australian Victoria Cross (VC) recipients in the days preceding and after Anzac Day 2021.
The Victoria Cross is the pre-eminent award for acts of bravery in wartime and is Australia's highest military honour. It is awarded to persons who, in the presence of the enemy, display the most conspicuous gallantry; a daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice; or extreme duty to duty. Australians have been awarded the Victoria Cross in conflicts from the Boer War (1899-1902) to the war in Afghanistan.
Come and learn what these courageous servicemen did and place a poppy in their memory if you wish. Paper poppies will be available from library staff.
The gallery will be available for viewing from Monday, April 12 until Tuesday, May, during library open hours 9am-6pm weekdays and 9am-noon on Saturdays.
Gallery Lane
Lithgow Tidy Towns annual Anzac Gallery Lane display is now on show.
Take a wander up Gallery Lane to reflect on the importance of their service. Lest We Forget.
