Lithgow Panthers women's Premier League Hockey team have been the benchmark for 11 years and plan to keep it that way.

The ladies hit out with a stunning season opener at home on Saturday, April 10 defeating Orange Ex-services 5-1.

Now under the guidance of coach Michael Miller who worked closely under 2020 coach David Marshall, the women are striving for another undefeated season.

Miller said Saturday's match saw a slow but steady start.

"We were down one-nil in the first quarter after dominating possession but we started to pick up," he said.

"The girls managed to compose themselves and grind their way back into the match taking a straggle hold in the third quarter," he said.

He said stand out players of the match were Chelsea Marshall, Caitlin Burns and Annie Buckley who all received points.

Miller said Panthers had lost some experienced players this season but have also picked up several others.

"We have picked up some younger and some first time premier league players, so we are working on the basics and trying to introduce the newer and younger players into the Panthers style of play," he said.

He said the ultimate goal for the season was for the women to defend their title and be one of two teams on grand final day.

"That's what we're striving for."

The women are currently training once a week and will play at home again on Saturday, April 17 against Orange United at 1.30pm.
