Following an off 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic, Lithgow men's Premier League Hockey players were excited to take the field as the newly formed Lithgow Storm on Saturday, April 10.
Lithgow Storm are a new and improved squad made with a hybrid of Panthers and Zig Zag hockey players.
Storm opened the season with a bang at Orange for an away game against the Wanderers bringing home an 11-0 victory.
Storm captain Nic Milne said Saturday's game was to see how the team would work together this season and the win was a bonus.
"It was a good first hit out, our main objective was just to gel as a unit but the highlight was coming away with a win," he said.
He said Brandon Horner and Taylor Dolbel were stand outs playing up front but overall he was happy with everyone's efforts and looked forward to the rest of the season.
"As a team we are looking to be in the top two this year and minor premiers would be nice but we will take it week by week," he said.
Milne said Storm are training once a week as well as players doing fitness in their own time. He said it felt good to be back on the turf after 12 months off.
"It's great to be back after a year off and especially to have the men's premier league competition back up and running again," he said.
Lithgow Storm take on Bathurst St Pat's on Saturday at home, time to be confirmed.
