The Lithgow Mercury understands that a 51-year-old Sydney man is recovering in Westmead Hospital after suffering suspected spinal injuries when he fell 10 metres into Clarence Dam on Tuesday afternoon, April 6.

Authorities believe the man was working for a commercial company and may have been testing a trapeze or similar prop when he fell from a rope into the water, landing on his back.

Lithgow Police, Ambulance Paramedics, and Lithgow Volunteer Rescue Squad all attended the accident scene, at around 2:30pm.
Paramedics stabilised the injured man before he was placed onto a stretcher and carried by Lithgow VRA members approximately 50 metres up an embankment to an ambulance. From there the man was transported to the nearby Clarence Colliery where the Toll Rescue Helicopter was already waiting.
The man was believed to be in a serious but stable condition at the time he was airlifted to Sydney.
