On Wednesday the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad received information from South Australia Police that a man wanted in relation to an alleged deliberately-lit fire in Adelaide had travelled to NSW.
The matter was referred to the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad who commenced an investigation to locate and arrest the man.
Following inquiries coordinated in conjunction with South Australia, Western Region and Southern Region police, a black Holden Commodore was identified as a vehicle of interest.
It was located, with assistance from PolAir, at a car wash in West Wyalong at about 6.20pm but, after officers from Murrumbidgee Police District approached, it fled at a high speed along the Newell Highway towards Parkes.
About 7.30pm, officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command commenced a pursuit of the vehicle on the Newell Highway near Parkes.
A short time later, the driver of the black Holden Commodore lost control of the car and hit a roadside post.
NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated the man at the scene for his injuries before he was airlifted to Westmead Hospital for further treatment.
The man remains in hospital under police guard in a stable condition.
The incident was declared a critical incident and an investigation commenced by a critical incident investigation team from Chifley Police District.
That investigation will be subject to an independent review.
