This was so true for the 18 golfers that battled the elements in Saturday's Lithgow Golf Club stableford (although seven pulled out mid game).
Heavy rain lashed the course off and on from early morning onwards with drenched golfers having to find a dry-ish path around the puddles while putting on a number of the holes.
It was amazing that anyone finished at all let alone score well, but this what the winner Darren Hunter who plays off scratch did. He returned an amazing par round 72 to give him 36 stableford points.
A rain soaked Hunter finished with three under on the front nine and then came home with 39 for his 72.

In all, Hunter recorded five birdies which was superb golf in the shocking conditions.
Runner up was Peter Hall (8) with a very good 33 points counting out two others.
Vouchers went to those with 19 points and better although most thought that anyone who actually finished should have got a voucher.
Vouchers were Michael Hunter, Anthony Oldfield, Brian Judge, Graham Dean and Rob Ritchie.
Nearest the pin was won by Al Mostyn.
Saturday's event will be a stroke with the second round of the Age Championships being held in conjunction.
