Just why the national regulator chose now while a new board and new executives were just weeks into settling into their challenge of restructuring the operations at Cooinda and Tanderra is anyone's guess but the whole thing has the whiff of a blinkered bureaucracy seeking an easy target in a troubled nation wide industry about to come under a Royal Commission spotlight.
This is the biggest issue that has faced Lithgow in years and deserves a response that involves the entire district community and our political representatives at all levels.
At stake is not only the all important future of affordable aged care in our region but the future of more than 70 residents of Cooinda and Tanderra, residents in waiting and just as importantly the 132 staff members.
It's a high stakes game that is being played in aged care and we have to be the winners.
The alternative is too distressing to contemplate.

Obstacle course
LIFE will be a challenge for semi trailer drivers making daily deliveries to Lithgow Woolworths for quit a while. Scaffolding now erected on the Main Street Lane end of the old Mort Street TAFE has forced the closure of the lane to all traffic.
Putting a large supermarket like Woolies on such a restricted block was always going to present access challenges and it's the truckies in the firing line. After unfortunate past experience in Cook Street with turning circles the deliveries for years have entered the lane via Eskbank Street but that option has now been shut off and it's back to Plan A with all the well recorded problems that come with it.

Global confusion
IF there's one thing you can always count on it's that you can never count on the weather. A two day regional swimming carnival at the weekend was the biggest local event of the Summer but rain and unseasonably cold temperatures arrived right on schedule.
With only two weeks remaining of the official Summer there has been virtually no REAL Summer weather.
At least it beats drought and bushfires.
