The Grand Final is set down for May 12. At this stage the Association has pencilled in playing three shorter competitions rather than the usual two longer ones.
Smashes started the better in their clash with Charolais, skipping out to 4-1 and 7-4 leads, and still looked likely winners deep into the match at 9-6. Charolais had other ideas though, as they charged through the last three singles rubbers and both doubles, all by 2-0, to win 'going away', 16-9.
Mark McAulay was best in a solid team effort for Charolais with 6-1, while Pauline Wellfare and Kelly Gurney both produced 3-4 marks.
Matthew Kappos (4-4) was the only Smashes player to break even, as Linda Kappos finished 3-4 and Peter Jaccoud 2-4.

Sharnie's Boys put themselves up as early title favourites when they claimed the first five rubbers against Grippers by a combined ten games to one. Grippers applied the brakes slightly to get back to 10-3 but Sharnie's Boys went 6-1 in the last three singles for an emphatic 16-4 victory.
Mick Wagner picked up where he left off last year with a perfect 6-0 result for the 'Boys', closely followed by Leon Rust (6-1), while Sharnie Roberts delivered 4-3.
None of the Grippers could make an impact, with Lou Kappos going 2-4, Riza Wiradi 2-6 and Shane Eagle 0-6.
Pointscore: Charolais 4, Sharnie's Boys 4, Grippers 0, Smashes 0.
This Week's Matches: Round 2; Sharnie's Boys v Smashes. Grippers v Charolais.
