Those are the goals of Lithgow Workmen's Senior Football Club's Western Premier League (WPL) team for 2021.

With preseason kicking off at the end of the month, there is plenty to do, and long-term player Brad Luka has taken over the coaching reins from Martin Hunter.

Hunter has taken up position as club secretary and says he wants to focus more on his game this year.

"I think I want to concentrate on my game this year, actually be a player, and yeah, it's good to pass on the role someone that's quite enthusiastic about it," he said.

This year will mark a 20 year stint for Luka with Workmen's and he's no stranger to being a coach.

"I did coach for four years from 2013 to 2017 but I'm back and ready to lead our team into finals football," he said.

Under his guidance will be plenty of young players coming through the ranks.

"We lost a lot of players due to working away and our captain got injured last year, so we're going to have a lot of the younger fellas stepping up.

"We're also going to see a lot of our first graders from the Bathurst comp stepping in," Luka said.

Luka said he looked forward to another season in the WPL against eight other teams and loved the physicality of competition.

"Last year every game was nearly a rivalry in this new competition.

"There's competitiveness in all of the teams, there's not one side that you can say is the weaker side in the comp, plus there's the challenge with travel and home and away games," he said.

Workmen's are also looking for coaches across its other grades and for its newly formed ladies squad.

"The only coach position that has been filled is the WPL," Hunter said.

"We're looking for a ladies coach and hopefully we can show them some support like they have showed us over the years," he said.

Anyone interested in playing, coaching or supporting Workmen's is encouraged to head down to their muster day on Sunday, January 31.

"Come down at 2pm and sign up, from 3pm we will be playing some seven-aside games, so come along and meet the club," Hunter said.

"We're always trying to grow, to create a place for people to come and play football and play to a good standard and have a good club behind them," he said.

The Western Premier League is set to kick off on the second weekend in April.

Workmen's also wanted to thank their sponsors including Lithgow Workies, Hunter Mining Methods and Lithgow Valley Outdoor Specialists who recently funded supporter scarves.
