Sunday's feature also marked a milestone for the jockey of the moment, riding the winners of 100 races this season after he took out the Race 3 Maiden HCP earlier in the meet.
Aboard the Matthew Dale-trained Royal Thunder ($1.75 favourite), McDougall searched for the lead early out the gate alongside Saint Ay ($8.50).
After opting to sit back, Royal Thunder then made its move down the straight, managing to hold the lead by half a head after a seesawing battle against Universal Thief ($13).
Cowra's own Mathew Cahill rode Upper House ($5.50) home in third.
"I wanted to lead but the apprentice [Madison Waters] wanted it a little bit more than me so just elected to let it go," McDougall told Sky Racing after the race.
"He had a bit of a look coming down the straight, he was in and out.
"He's [trainer Matthew Dale] done a tremendous job to turn this horse's form around."
Speaking about his milestone victory for the season, McDougall said his success was possible thanks to the support of his team.
"I wanna thank my team at home, my support base, we worked really hard this season and the kids at home, I'm never there so it's a credit to them," he said.
"Also my manager, he does a remarkable job. I only ride as many winners as I do because he's making sure I'm on the right horses so it's a credit to him."
