Organiser John Kearns said the decision wasn't an easy one.

"This decision was taken after much deliberation and evaluation of the COVID requirements," he said.

Mr Kearns said the decision, which was much regretted had to be done.

Organisers of the Portland Australia Day celebrations are putting a call out for all interested persons or organisations to become involved in the annual celebration on Tuesday, January 26.

Organiser John Kearns said he would welcome suggestions to add or improve the celebrations.

"The celebrations in Portland are an important event on the calendar, there is always room for improvement to the programme or activities," he said.

"Criticism or non-action does not help to change anything and we welcome participations from the community."

The activities, which will be restricted this year due to COVID-19 rules will center on Wolgan Street between 10am and 3pm.

Mr Kearns said they we will be doing their best to provide some entertainment and activities for the children.

"There will be stalls and hopefully some other items of interest," he said.

"It is hoped that the community of Portland, will once again come to the fore and support their celebrations."

Mr Kearns said stallholders are always welcome and play an important role.
