Imogen, 11, and her sister Amber, 8, had 36 centimetres of hair chopped off and donated to Hair with Heart, an organisation that helps to make wigs for children who have lost hair due to medical conditions.
The Lithgow Public School students raised a total of $2001 for the charity.
Imogen said she felt nervous about chopping her hair off.
"I didn't know if it [my hair] was going to look good but then I felt really happy and proud because my hair is going to a really good cause," she said.
Being Amber's first time going in for the big chop, she also felt nervous.
"I felt really really nervous about getting it cut, but when it was cut, I really loved it. I really love my short hair," she said.
The girls also said it was funny to hear the scissors snipping close to their ears.
Mum Donna Large said her daughters have not stopped playing with their new dos and she was proud of them.
"I also want to thank the Lithgow community as well as friends and family who have all supported Imogen and Amber to achieve something very special.
"Words cannot express how proud we are of our beautiful girls," she said.
The haircut took place at Lithgow Information Neighbourhood Centre (LINC) by hairdresser and Cr Maree Statham and Jackie Vogel from Communities and Kids at LINC.
