Widespread power outages were reported in Wallerawang, Portland, Hartley and parts of Lithgow with Essential Energy crews working around the clock to restore power to businesses and home.
Elsewhere in the region, on Wednesday morning 254 residents in the Bathurst suburb of Llanarth were still without power, while Orange had numerous areas affected with more than 1600 properties affected overnight.
East of Dubbo towards the Geurie and Goolma areas 132 customers are still affected while south of Dubbo, Essential Energy is hoping to have power for 159 properties restored soon.
A spokesperson from Essential Energy said they had been inundated by calls and were responding as soon as possible.
"Essential Energy crews worked throughout the night in challenging conditions to restore power to over 25,000 customers after over 31,000 homes and business lost power yesterday afternoon, after widespread storms caused significant damage to the electricity network in South West Slopes, Orana and Tablelands of NSW.
"With approximately 5,850 customers still without power, Essential Energy crews will continue to work as quickly as safety allows to restore power to all customers after yesterday's extreme weather. Additional crews members and resources from across the state have been deployed to the affected areas to assist with restoration efforts.
"Essential Energy apologises for any inconvenience caused by the power outages and thanks the community for their patience."
