The upgrades will see repairs done to the gutters and downpipes, repointing the sandstone brickwork to rectify the rising damp issues, replacement of the ceiling and painting to the stairwell.

Bathurst MP Paul Toole said that the work was needed to preserve the State Heritage-listed site and is being carried out with great care.

"Because of the historical importance of Wallerawang Railway station, all work is being carried out in accordance with the Heritage Act," Mr Toole said.

"Protection systems have to be in place to ensure that historic built elements and fabrics aren't damaged or removed, ensuring the station can be retained in mint condition for current and future generations."

Grant Warren, Facilities Superintendent with John Holland Rail, said they were undertaking minor repairs to the State Heritage listed Wallerawang Railway Station on behalf of Transport for NSW to preserve it for the future.

Works will be completed by the end of November.

"The repairs to Wallerawang Station are being undertaken to ensure the long-term protection of this State significant Heritage item for the community and to support the local businesses that utilise it," he said.

"The preservation and maintenance of Heritage items like Wallerawang Station is important in helping us to better understand our history and the identity of our communities."
