The traditional Remembrance Day service at Queen Elizabeth Park in Lithgow has been cancelled. Michael Cuthbert, Secretary of the Lithgow Sub-Branch penned an announcement to the community that expressed regret that the commemoration couldn't go ahead.
'It is with great regret that we have to advise that this year's Remembrance Day service will NOT be going ahead in Queen Elizabeth Park, Lithgow, due to circumstances beyond our control,' the announcement read. PHOTOS | Remembrance Day in Lithgow 2019
'Remembrance Day, as we all know is a day for reflection and to remember every Australian who has paid the Supreme Sacrifice in the defence of our Country and our way of life and, although there will not be a service occurring in Queen Elizabeth Park, at 11 am on the 11 th Day of the 11 th month please take a moment to reflect in your own way about the members of the Australian Defence Force, who have served and are currently serving, and especially those who have paid the Supreme Sacrifice for us.
The Sub-Branch wanted to stress that the Executive and Members of the Lithgow City R.S.L. Sub-Branch, wish thank everyone who attends this day of Remembrance of the service and sacrifice of all our men and women of our Defence Force, Past and Present.
They added that if anyone wishes to lay a wreath or flowers at the Cenotaph at 11am on the 11th Day of the 11th month, please feel free to do so. 'Once again, we wish to apologise for not being able to conduct this years' service, and we wish thank everyone for your understanding and look forward to your involvement in the future,' they said.
