The former Labor premier says Australia will go broke if Queensland and other states don't soon reopen their borders.

Ms Palaszczuk has promised a decision on opening the NSW and Victoria borders by the end of the week.

She insists the senior Labor figure's criticism four days before the election isn't bothering her.

"No it's not, not it's not," the premier told reporters in Mackay on Tuesday.

Ms Palaszczuk also rejected Mr Beattie's assertion that the border closures were deepening the COVID-19 recession in her state.

"I will concede that I will listen to the health advice to keep Queenslanders safe every single day," she said.

"That is my job and you only have to look at the fact that our economy is open. Within Queensland you've got Queenslanders out there supporting one another."

Mr Beattie called on the Queensland government to adopt a contract tracing system like NSW.

"Frankly if we don't open up, then Australia's going to go broke," Mr Beattie told ABC News 24 on Tuesday.

"It's a fact. It's not a political comment Liberal-Labor, you know whatever, this is about the future of jobs in this country."

The former premier admits he probably would have shut the borders initially if faced with the same circumstances.

He says whoever wins the Queensland election will be faced with an "economic tsunami" if they don't reopen.

"What was done in the past, let's give everyone a big tick for that," Mr Beattie said.

"Let's move forward and the way to move forward is to open up the borders. We have to do this as a country, not have state borders."

Labor released its costings on Monday, revealing it will need to save $270 million annually from the health budget until 2024 to meet election commitments.

Treasurer Cameron Dick insisted that staff would not be cut to improve efficiency, but conceded it may impact medical procedures.

"The money is not pulled back, the money ... is achieved through better productivity and better outcomes," he told reporters on Tuesday.

"So we provide money for activities, principally medical procedures, and we ask hospitals to do more with that 2.0 per cent more, and that's what we should do"

Mr Dick also has another $317 million available for further stimulus or further election promises before Saturday's vote.

The release of costings five days out from the election is designed to ratchet up pressure on the LNP.

The opposition have insisted that they will not jump the gun on costings before they have made all their election pledges.

The LNP have also said they will not reveal their funding source for election promises.
