A woman who was sexually assaulted by a Brisbane swimming coach more than a decade ago says keeping the "depraved, vulgar human being" out of society will bring her comfort.

Brendan John Terry, 57, showed no expression as he was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in jail for one rape charge and 22 counts of indecent treatment of children.
He pleaded guilty to some charges and was found guilty of others during earlier proceedings.
The five victims were aged between eight and 15, with offences occurring over almost two decades from 1989 - the year after the then-26-year-old became a paid swimming coach.
Terry touched girls on their breasts and vagina and forced one to perform oral sex on him in a change-room.
The court heard one victim was aged between 10 and 15 when Terry touched and kissed her, made her rub his penis and exposed himself to her.
The woman, who cannot be named to protect her identity, told the Brisbane District Court on Friday the trajectory of her life changed when Terry first touched her.
She said it did not matter how long the "depraved, vulgar human being" spent behind bars because it would not change the facts.
"He is a predator and always will be," she told the court.
"But keeping him out of society will bring comfort to me - he cannot do it again while he's locked away."
Terry used his position of trust as a sporting coach to access the girls to engage in sexual activities with them, crown prosecutor Carly Whelan told the court.
"There was often the element of grooming in respect of the offending," she said.
"(Terry) would make inappropriate sexual comments towards them leading up to the offending and would then act upon the sexual interest when he knew that he was alone with them."
Judge Catherine Muir said the "extremely serious" offences were committed on girls whose parents had trusted him as a swimming coach.
"Your conduct towards these young girls who are now grown women is reprehensible," Judge Muir told Terry during sentencing on Friday.
"It was predatory and at times brazen and persistent. You acted with such a sense of entitlement."
Judge Muir said the women who reported the offences had chosen to do so in the hope they would save others the ordeal.
Terry - who quit swimming and triathlon coaching, becoming a real estate agent in 2006 - will be eligible for parole on June 11, 2023.
