A 31-year-old Orange man was arrested in the scrub near Wentworth Falls by officers assisted by helicopters and police dogs following an "extremely high speed" chase along the Great Western Highway.

On Friday night, Lithgow Highway Patrol detected and pursued a black SS Commodore which was believed to be travelling at over 180km/h in an 80km/h zone.
Police called off the pursuit at Mt Victoria due to the high speed of the chase, with the vehicle monitored travelling through the Blue Mountains towards Sydney but not pursued.
PolAir2 began to track the car in Woodford before it was found unattended at Wentworth Falls.

The helicopter guided the dog squad and local constables through thick bushland behind residences and located the man, who was taken to Katoomba Police Station.
The man was charged with multiple offences, including dangerous driving, police pursuit - known as Skye's Law - as well as driving while disqualified, drug offences.
He was also wanted on an arrest warrant for several previous pursuits in the metropolitan area, which he was also charged with.
