THERE'S a lot of truth in Joni's proclamation that '..don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got til it's gone?'.

And often, sadly, we don't even know that it's gone.
And that's the case with the changing streetscape in Lithgow's western Main Street; unnoticed by the less observant among us, including this correspondent.
No longer is there any Holden signage competing with Toyota for your attention. Gone! Consigned to the dustbin of history.
You didn't have to be a motoring buff to feel more than a little sad for our tradition when the American parent company pulled the plug on the name 'Holden' for good.
Around the nation Holden dealers had to revert to Plan B or shut up shop.
And down came that very familiar white and red corporate signage.
For well over five decades the Holden sign was prominent above what started out as Hassans Walls Motors, then Lean and Bennett and finally as Lithgow City Holden.
The popular pre loved car yard remains, so too does the award winning Toyota agency that shares the site.
But the Holden brand has gone forever - leaving just those kangaroos and meat pies.
Just as well they don't have overseas bosses.

..and as well
The Holden brand isn't all to disappear in Lithgow lately. The old caravan park amenities block in Glanmire Park went under the wrecking ball last week. The caravan park had its heyday back when Wang power station construction had hordes of tradies in town but has been shut down for years when a private park opened and the amenities block has for long been a haven for vandals and who knows who else.
Wonder what the Glanmire cricketers will do now for toilet facilities.
The kiosk needs you
The one thing that helps make hospitals just a little lovable, if that's the right word, is the hospital kiosk; escape from the ward for a proper coffee or a chat or a place for visitors to meet.
At Lithgow Hospital the kiosk has been in pandemic lockdown since March. It's now re-opening but during the long shutdown some volunteers have moved on.
So the invitation, perhaps that should be a plea, is out for new, err, blood. If you can spare an hour or so a week in good company the kiosk volunteers would be delighted to hear from you. (Men are welcome too).
Just drop in any day between 9.30am and 1.30pm and find out what's involved.
So how's the First Lady
HAS anyone heard how Melania is faring after her brush with the coronavirus? She was one of the White House happy couple diagnosed with the all too often deadly bug but any word on her progress has been swamped by her old man's non stop bombast. How sexist is that?
