For the last couple of years local and non-local anglers would gather at Wallerawang's Lake Wallace to cast their lines in to win prizes and at the same time remove pesky Redfin from the local waterways at a large community event.
Instead, this year's Gone Fishing Day on October 18 will be virtual due to COVID-19.
The Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation (ARRF) has designed a Gone Fishing Day app so anyone can safely get involved on the day. Prizes will also be drawn every five minutes.
Through the app fishers can upload photos and videos of their favourite fishing locations and capture their memorable fishing moments.
Wallerawang Central Acclimatisation Society secretary Ray Tang said during these unprecedented times an online event was the best way to keep people involved in recreational fishing.
"We can keep people involved and still hold a national Gone Fishing Day," he said.
He said as much as Wallerawang CAS would like to host the event they would make it bigger and better for next year.
We will just have to make Gone Fishing Day 2021 bigger and better.

"It's unfortunate but going virtual keeps people interested and we can introduce people to recreational fishing. We will just have to make Gone Fishing Day 2021 bigger and better," he said.
Mr Tang encouraged people to head to their local waterways and drop a line in.
"Head down to Lake Lyell or Lake Wallace."
"We've also got a new facility for recreational fishing with the Portland Millpond at The Foundations as a new fishery option for anglers in the area," Mr Tang said.
The Gone Fishing Day app will be available for download from both the Apple and Google Play stores from mid-September.
