New Release: A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood (PG, 2020)
A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood is a powerful and moving film based on real life friendship. It is a true story with Oscar winner, Tom Hanks, playing the part of Fred Rogers, a Children's TV icon.
Tom Hanks begins the film by singing a delightful song 'Won't you be my neighbour?'
This character drama depicts kindness, friendship and forgiveness between two people, Fred Rogers and Lloyd Vogel, a troubled investigative journalist.
Assigned to profile Fred Rogers, Vogel finds it rather difficult to believe that anyone can have such a good nature. However, Rogers' empathy, kindness and decency soon dispels Vogel's jaded views on life and therefore forcing the reporter to reconcile with his own painful past.
Cast:Tom Hanks, Matthew Rhys, Susan Kelechi and Chris Cooper
Friday, September 18, 10.30am and Sunday, September 20, 2.00pm
Classic Movie: Citizen Kane (G, 1941)
Multimillionaire newspaper tycoon, Charles Foster Kane played by Orson Welles, dies alone in his mansion, Xanadu, speaking only one word "Rosebud".
In an attempt to work out the meaning of this word, a group of reporters track down the people who worked and lived with Kane.
They recount their experiences in a series of flashbacks that reveal Kane's life, though unfortunately not enough to unlock the riddle of his dying breath.
As the investigation of Kane's life continues, what comes to light, is a fascinating display of his rise to fame and power and how eventually he topples and his relationship with others begin to deteriorate and he dies old and alone.
Awards: Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Grammy award for Best Spoken Word Album
Cast: Orson Welles, Joseph Cotton, Dorothy Comingore and Agnes Moorhead.
