The Wolves walked away with their first win of the season 20-12 over the Orange CYMS at Tony Luchetti Sportsground on Saturday, July 25.

"It's what I knew the boys had in them I suppose, it was a lot better than last week, we played good footy today and held onto the ball for starters," Workies coach Ben Lane said.

"We missed a lot less tackles, especially against CYMS' because they are a pretty good side so I thought we did really well today."

The Lithgow side started slow in the first half but once they got going the side never looked back.

"It was 8-6 at halftime and then we managed to go on with it at the end which was good," Lane said.

The first try in the second half came five minutes in and then again two minutes later, but unfortunately the Wolves couldn't convert any of their kicks.

"The boys dug in well and kept playing for the whole 60 minutes, but overall it was a much better performance," he said.

The boys went into the final quarter up 14-8 but they weren't done yet, even if an Orange try almost derailed their win.

Wolves lock Cooper Nunan sliced through the Orange defence and crossed the line before Cooper Egan converted to take the final score 20-12.

"Everyone from 1 through to 17 had a good game, everyone really contributed," Lane said.

He said that it was a tough game since CYMS' had won both of their games.

"They [CYMS'] played Wednesday night so they were probably a bit flat from Wednesday but we made the best of our opportunities today and it was good, we played good footy," Lane said.

Lane said it was a much better effort from his side and they trained well before the match.

"I think the opposition was better [than last week] and the referee had a good game and kept them apart and let it go a bit better than last week," he said.

"I think the referee played a big part in the quality of the game last week, but in saying that it was our first game back last week and we were a bit flat, a bit rusty."

Lane overall was happy to get the win.

"Getting a victory is always good and the boys were very happy," he said.

But now the side has to back it up in a match on Wednesday night, at Carrington Park in Bathurst against the Panthers at 6pm.

"We have to back it up on Wednesday night which will be tough since we have a few injuries but hopefully it should be alright, it should be a tough game," Lane said.

"We just have to see if we can do it again."
