The wet weather, though much needed, forced Dubbo to close its playing fields over the weekend which led to a reverse fixture at Marjorie Jackson complex between Lithgow Workmen's and Macquarie United on Sunday.
The home game proved an advantage for the Lithgow side with a 2-1 victory.
Workmen's coach Martin Hunter said as a team their first run wasn't too bad, but there was "a few cob webs to clean out".
"As whole we weren't too bad, we tried to play the game the way we planned and I think we can only build from here.
"We haven't played since March and our match fitness and game awareness can only get better from here," he said.
Hunter said Nick Young had a great game with his long range shot pushing the club up to 2-nil, following captain Ben Sheehan's strike into the back of the net only five minutes into play.
"Sam Johnson also saved a critical shot on target from Dubbo, that would've made it it 2-2 in the second half.
"He saved it from going top bins," Hunter said.
He said Chris Goodman was also a strong player on the day.
"He controlled the game with his impact coming on late in the first half."
Hunter hoped to improve on match awareness leading into future games and know when to be patient with the ball.
"Our goal scoring opportunities will be taken more in the future and I hope to keep a clean sheet in every game, as a defender it is our responsibility for that," he said.
He praised the Dubbo side for being "good lads" and hoped to catch up with them in August.
"We will now travel to Dubbo in August when we were scheduled to have a home game," he said.
In the meantime, Workmen's are gearing up for a tough home game against Panorama this Saturday.
Kick off is at 2pm and Hunter encouraged supporters to come down.
"We ask for all the backup from our local supporters."
