Member for Bathurst Paul Toole announced that LINC received the funding from the NSW Government's Celebrating Diversity Grants program.

LINC manager Lydia Commins said that it felt really good to get the funding to be able to help people in the community.

The money will go towards running multi cultural projects and groups.

"Cristina Portilla normally runs a Funday Monday each month where multicultural residents can come together to do cooking classes, singing, whatever they are interested in," she said.

"They also go on excursions during the year, and we even connect with the Adult Migrant English Program at Lithgow TAFE to get people involved."

This kind of program also helps multicultural residents with their Visa's, as well as supporting and translating information.

"We have been helping them around the COVID-19 situation as well, so it feels good to be able to continue to support the community," she said.

"The funding is very much appreciated."

Mr Toole said the money support programs and activities that create networks, connections and opportunities within our diverse communities.

"We are investing in innovative projects that will make a positive difference to people's lives and will bring our community closer together," Mr Toole said.

"LINC work in the heart of our local community to support newcomers and break barriers to participation.

"This funding will allow multi-cultural worker Cristina Portilla to be engaged to work directly with identified community members."

The project will aim to foster integration, encourage social and economic participation, build community resilience, promote and strengthen intercultural networks, reduce isolation, develop new skills and practice conversational English.

NSW Government Celebrating Diversity Grants for projects have previously supported multicultural youth engagement programs, refugee and asylum seeker projects and civic and volunteering programs.
