A big field contested the annual Lithgow Golf Club Zig Zag Motel Winter Cup with the scratch champion going to Brock Egan while the nett champion was young Luke Oldfield.
The Cup is one of the major events on the calendar, sponsored by the Zig Zag Motel.
It was a tremendous win for Bock Egan who has been putting a lot of time into his game over recent weeks and to shoot a three over par 75 on a course that was set up in a manner that really tested the skills, patience and sense of humour of the players, was excellent.
Some of the pin placements were near unplayable as could be seen with only seven pars and one birdie (Egan) been registered on the 17th hole out of a field of 83 players and the sixth and 10th holes were not much better.
The difficulty of the course was further emphasised with only four golfers out of the big field being able to play to their handicap or better.
In the handicap section, Luke Oldfield continued his excellent form carding a 68 nett to take out the major title.
He is really benefiting from the coaching from his father Bill who is the lowest handicap marker in the club.
In the grade events, A grade was won by Shane Monaghan with a score of 73 nett with John Chadwick runner up on 74 nett ocb.
Best scratch score went to Andrew Burton who was counted out for the major title when both he and Egan finished with 75.
In B grade, Lleyton Guest was best with 72 nett from runner up Trevor Cameron on 74.
Best scratch score was returned by Jeff Geddes with a 87.
In C grade, winner was Jared Bott finished with an excellent 69 nett with Peter Milton runner up on 76 nett.
Last week's C grade winner Nathan Marshall returned the best scratch score with 100.
Vouchers went down to those with 76 nett ocb and they were Michael Hunter, Gary Wallace, Rob Ritchie, Brian Judge, Frank Mantle, Geoff Thompson and Carlos Garibotto.Nearest to the pins were Dave Hicks, Ian Downey, Greg Guest, Steve Hall.
The winner of the Wednesday, July 1 nine hole competition was Don Farnsworth on 25 points. Runner up was John Bird on 23 and Barry Jackson on 21.
Vouchers went down to those with 17 points ocb and they were Brian Quick, Dave Duroux, Jeff Geddes, Ross Harrington, Craig Pugsley, Wayne Morris, Michael Bennett, Owen Younger and Leo Murnane.
The winner of the Friday, July 3 nine hole competition was Gary Marshall on 26 points. Runner up was Don Farnsworth on 25 points.Vouchers went down to those with 20 points and they were Rob George, Jeff Geddes, Michael Casey and Rod Bright.
