Residents and business owners of Portland have been advised of the upcoming works which include the removal of mop tops, to be replaced with more suitable plants and trees for the area.
There will also be an upgrade to the existing garden beds to make them more sustainable and eliminate the washout of gardens during wet weather.
There will also be an installation of new street bins, furniture and metal tree guards.
According to a Council media release, the project will result in improved safety for pedestrians, improved roadside parking and access, and enhancements to the amenity of the Portland CBD.
The project is expected to commence this week with works to be undertaken by Council staff and contractors.
Residents are urged to note the changed traffic conditions in the area while works progress. Council has asked if residents could please exhibit caution and patience when travelling through the area.
