An assessment and inspection of the bridge on Upper Turon Road in the vicinity of Turon Gates has raised concerns of the structural integrity of the asset.
Due to the risk this poses to public safety, the bridge has been closed with immediate effect.
The community and public are required to cross the river through the adjacent causeway, until a temporary bridge can be installed as a matter of priority in early July 2020.
Once this temporary bridge is installed, Council will commence the design and construction of a permanent replacement bridge.
As works progress, please be aware that traffic conditions will change in this area.
Motorists are advised to exhibit caution and advanced warning signage will be in place to warn all motorists. Council appreciates the community's assistance, patience and understanding in this matter.
Water Supply Affected
Water supply in the area of Barton Street, Lithgow may be affected due to a water mains break.
Council is undertaking emergency repairs on the reticulation network that services Barton Street, Lithgow. Residents in this area may experience a reduction in water pressure or no water.
Council cannot advise a time for the completion of repairs, but will aim to minimise the period of disruption.
Upon return of normal service, residents may experience dirty water for a period. Council will endeavour to minimise this by flushing the mains.
Before using the water for domestic purposes, residents are advised to run the first tap that services their property to ensure the water is clean and any dirt released into the system has been flushed before running internal taps. If you continue to experience issues of dirty water, please contact Council.
Road works
For the week ending in May 30, key works were completed by Lithgow City Council staff.
Within the urban Lithgow area, Council staff focused their efforts on asphalt and concrete improvements.
Asphalt defect repairs were conducted at Cook Street, Browns Gap Road, Main Street Lane, New Street and the Main Street carpark.
Alongside this work, footpath repairs and renewals have been completed on Enfield Avenue, Ferro Street, Martini Parade, Rifle Parade, and continue on Sandford Avenue.
In the rural areas of our LGA, Council staff have also worked towards the maintenance and repair of a number of sealed and unsealed road assets.
Asphalt patching has occurred on 13 separate roads throughout the Wallerawang, Portland and Capertee area. Road grading crews have also continued their capital resheeting works at Palmers Oakey Road, and Genowlan Road, with Old Bindo Road and Huntingdale Road maintenance grading nearing completion.
Council engineers are completing two of Council's final capital projects this week - the installation of a new culvert in Woolnough Street, Vale of Clwydd, and the heritage reconstruction of a timber bridge in Hartley Vale.

Lithgow City mayor Cr Ray Thompson said both of these projects would assist a number of residents with long-standing flooding issues in the area.
"[Flooding] recently resulted in the destruction of the only access to their property," he said.
In addition, the Harley Vale bridge reconstruction is a delicate project that has required close consultation with specialist engineers and consultants to retain the heritage value of an asset that requires renewal and upgrade to accommodate modern vehicle standards.
"Both of these projects will be complete in the coming weeks and I am certain both will provide great benefit to the Lithgow community into the future," Cr Thompson said.
