Mrs Hawken has been the Vale Ladies president for the last 10 years and spends her time volunteering to run events and cater for a variety of community groups, including the elderly and people living with disabilities.
Earlier this month she was invited to attend a special awards ceremony at the International Convention Centre in Sydney where she was recognised for her achievements.
"I was a bit shocked, I didn't know what it was for and it came as a bit of surprise," Mrs Hawken said.
She said she felt honoured to receive the title.
"I was flabbergasted to tell you the truth, but I am feeling very honoured, it was quite a privilege," she said.

Mrs Hawken wanted to thank the Vale Ladies who help run events and continue to support her.
"Thanks to the Vale Ladies for their help through the years, I wouldn't be able to do it without you," she said.
Last week Member for Bathurst Paul Toole made a surprise visit to Mrs Hawken's home to congratulate her.
He presented her with a bouquet of flowers and a certificate as a sign of recognition and to show his appreciation for all that she does for the local community.
"Jan is a selfless person who always puts others first," Mr Toole said.
He said he could not think of a more deserving person to be named as local woman of the year.
"Jan never seeks recognition for the work she does and is a real quiet achiever in the Lithgow community," he said.
