Now in an official statement to the Lithgow Mercury the Department of Education has confirmed that it will continue to work closely with Lithgow City Council and will upgrade areas on school property to improve access to the new crossing point on Barton Avenue.
The works include the construction of new gates, fencing and pathways to the new crossing point.
According to a Department of Education spokesperson council has requested the department contribute to an upgrade of the new parking area and to construction of new pathways between the school and the new parking area.
"The works on Barton Avenue, including repositioning the traffic island, are the responsibility of council, as is the case for similar works on council land near schools across the state," the spokesperson said.

"Any upgrade relating to the new parking area on council land is also the responsibility of council."
At Wallerawang Public School there is a supervised pedestrian crossing point and a 40 km/h zone in operation at requisite times before and after school.
"The safety of students, staff and their families is of paramount importance to the Department of Education," the spokesperson said.
This announcement comes days after Bathurst MP Paul Toole has criticised Lithgow City Council for their handling of the parking situation.
"It's disappointing, Council doesn't seem to have put any serious thought into this project, I've seen no costings, no plans, no designs," he said.
