A man will appear in Lithgow court today charged over allegedly deliberately lighting a bushfire in Portland.

Police say that at about 10.30am on Wednesday January 27, a man was walking his dogs along Ridge Street at Portland, about 25km north-west of Lithgow, when he saw a fire burning in bushland.
Emergency services were called to the scene and extinguished the fire.
No one was injured and no property was damaged.

Officers from Chifley Police District attended the scene and later commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 24-year-old man at a home in Ridge Street, Portland at about 9.30am on Wednesday February 19.
He was taken to Lithgow Police Station, where he was charged with intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread.
The man was refused bail to appear at Lithgow Local Court on Thursday February 20.
