Probationary Constables Aaron Taylor and Michaela Palmer have hit the ground running since being assigned to their first police district after graduating from the academy at Goulburn.
Both Aaron and Michaela hail from Bathurst and were very happy to learn they had been assigned to Lithgow to kick off their careers in the NSW Police Force.
Officer in Charge of Lithgow Police, Chief Inspector Chris Sammut, and new Superintendent of the Chifley Police District, Peter O'Brien, joined Bathurst MP Paul Toole this week to welcome the new recruits to the city.
Chief Insp Sammut said the extra two officers brings the Lithgow Station to a 45-strong compliment of police, including general duties, highway patrol and detectives.
The safety and security of the Lithgow community continues to be the NSW Government's highest priority with two new police officers on the local beat, Bathurst MP Paul Toole said.
MP Toole said the boost for the local Chifley Command follows the recent swearing in of 275 new probationary constables, including 182 men and 93 women.
Twenty-two recruits were born overseas in countries including Iran, Nepal and Brazil.
Eleven of the new recruits are from an Indigenous background, including three who have come through the Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery (IPROWD) Program to boost Aboriginal Australians in the NSW Police Force.
Mr Toole said the State would be a safer place with the new recruits assigned to local Police Area Commands across NSW.
"I want to welcome our two new recruits to the police family," Mr Toole said.
NSW Police Force Commissioner Mick Fuller said the latest probationary constables will boost police resources as the busy summer months commence.
"Our newest police officers will hit the ground running," Mr Fuller said.
"As they start their new job, they bring life experience, enthusiasm and the skills they have gained in training at the Police Academy.
"They are a welcome addition at police commands across the State."
