"I felt so honoured to be even considered for Young Citizen of Lithgow, let along receiving the award," Shannon said.

"This has only encouraged me to continue to work hard both in and out of school and to maintain my enthusiastic approach to all that I do."

Shannon received the award for being a positive role model to her younger peers and for her outstanding leadership skills.

As the 2020 La Salle school captain, Shannon has shown incredible leadership qualities and hopes that she could use these skills to encourage her peers to do their best throughout the year.

"As school captain at La Salle my main goal is to support and encourage my peers, my age and younger, to be the best students they can be in their studies, their hobbies, and as people in general," she said.

As for what Shannon hopes to achieve this year, the goal is simple.

"I would like to complete my HSC to the best of my abilities alongside my friends and peers and to maintain a happy presence within the La Salle community," she said.

Shannon wanted to thank her family and friends for always supporting her, especially her parents.

"I would also like to thank my teachers who encourage both my school work and all my extra-curricular activities," she said.

A close friend of the family, Michelle Buck nominated the young student for the award.
