Ian Townsend and Jeff Madden played Bob Kiernan and Warren Kennedy in what turned out to be a very one-sided victory for the former pair.
Madden and Townsend were dominant in winning 30-8 and advancing to quarter final rounds.
Garry Sutherland and Gil Mendosa played a very tight match at the start, to be 10 all at the 15th end, against their opponents.
Winning the final five ends enabled Sutherland and partner to get away and win 20-12. They advance towards the quarters as well and some healthy teams are lining up at the final stages.
Al Case and Dave Robson were drawn against Garry Bender and John Perry.
Pender and Perry scored first with a triple but then conceded give consecutive ends to be down 3-12.
Some grafting bowls resulted in Perry asserting their authority to draw level at 15-all on end 13.

The final seven ends only had one multiple score and that proved to be the difference with Perry and Bender ensuring a win by matching single shot ends until the end, winning 22-19.
Saturday Social bowls had 26 starters and the victors on the day were Gary Vidler, Paul Crane and Graeme Pitt who easily accounted for their opponents, Fred Crowther, Tim Breen and Bob Brown with a handsome 38-10 win.
The next few weeks will see Pennant selections and Pairs Championships in full swing.
The relatively new 'Tiff Drawf' green is progressing nicely and good things are expected with the green keeper's patience being rewarded.
Plenty of social bowls are available for newcomers, with anyone desirous being welcome.
