A MAN has been charged after allegedly being in possession of stolen firefighting equipment and other goods during police patrols of bushfire-affected areas on the weekend.

At 2.30pm on Sunday, officers from Blue Mountains Police Area Command were patrolling a dirt access road between Blackheath and Medlow Bath railway stations.
Police observed a man sitting in the driver's seat of a silver Nissan Pulsar, with a clear zip-lock bag containing what officers suspected to be cannabis.
During a subsequent vehicle search, officers located and seized firefighting equipment and a National Parks and Wildlife Service uniform, which are believed to be stolen, and cannabis.
The 56-year-old man, who is not a member of the National Parks and Wildlife Service or the NSW Rural Fire Service, was arrested and taken to Katoomba Police Station.
He was charged with goods in personal custody suspected being stolen and possess prohibited drug.
The Carlton man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Katoomba Local Court later this month.
