Peter Pilbeam was nominated as the new Lithgow and District Chamber of Commerce president at the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, November 12.
"I nominated for it because I want to see business in Lithgow go ahead and be put first and foremost on the political and business agenda," he said.
In his new role Mr Pilbeam said he and his executive team were formulating great ideas, including a shop local initiative called 'Why Leave Town', an organisation based in Narrabri.
"This initiative has implemented successful all year round shop local programs in many council areas throughout regional NSW, we're investigating and hopeful to have a presentation by the 'Why Leave Town' group at our January meeting," he said.
"They know regional communities and how to make ongoing programs like this work."
Mr Pilbeam said he had previously spoken with the mayor of Moree about how the campaign worked in their area.
"It was good to speak to someone far away to get their view on it and how it works for their town," he said.
Mr Pilbeam said he looked forward to working within the Business Chamber and the committee aimed to host more functions next year with guest speakers.
"We have a very good committee who are a dedicated group of people and we all want to see Lithgow boom.
"Having meetings, networking and social functions will help to bring like-minded people together and creates a positive outlook for the town," he said.
"More business, more jobs and more prosperity."

With Christmas around the corner Mr Pilbeam also wanted to remind people to support local.
"We always want people to shop local and at this time of year we want to support local Christmas shopping," he said.
He said it was also good to see an up-kick of businesses in the area this year, boosting the local economy.
"We've had the opening of Hungry Jacks bring more jobs, the old TAFE building sold and a few local businesses have popped up throughout Main Street and in the plaza," he said.
The next Lithgow and District Chamber of Commerce Christmas meeting will be held on Monday, December 9 at the Zig Zag Motel.
Dinner will be at 6pm followed by a 7pm meeting. Dinner is $25, those interested are to RSVP and pay by Friday, December 6 at the Zig Zag Motel or phone 0414 658 285.
