Lithgow City Council staff will meet with community representatives, including the Rural Fire Service which has a shed at the Lithgow City Council-owned site, on Wednesday morning, November 6, to address concerns.

Mr Ditchfield said truck movements and storage of materials at the site had damaged the grass, which had previously made the market area relatively impervious to different weather conditions, the swale behind the row of tents which allowed water to pool rather than run through the market site, as well as site markings and pre-planted umbrella stands.

"We're expecting to run a market in two and half weeks," he said.

"You can't expect people to turn up to a market in a dust bowl."

Lithgow City Council's director of infrastructure services Jonathon Edgecombe said the site would be "immediately remediated" once the works were completed.

"I am doing my best to reassure everyone concerned that work will begin to remediate the site the second [the road works] are completed," he said.

Mr Edgecombe said there was restricted space at Tarana that would allow for the necessary truck movements for the works.

He said he would be discussing an exclusion zone with the Rural Fire Service this morning, which would ensure their access to their shed would be unimpeded.

The works will be completed at Hazelgrove Road by Monday next week, Mr Edgecombe said.
