This is a film based on the Marcia Davenport novel of the same name, set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in the 1870's. It tells the story of a young Irish house maid who falls in love with the son of her employer, a local steel mill owner.
Besides being a romance, the film has messages about social issues surrounding Pittsburgh at that time. The movie stars Greer Garson, Gregory Peck, Donald Crisp, Lionel Barrymore and a very young Jessica Tandy. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards for best actress and best music, this was Garson's fifth consecutive nomination and this record still stands today.
It screens on Friday, November 8 at 10.30am at 2.30pm at Lithgow's Main Street cinema.
No movie will be screened on Sunday.
