A TRUCK carrying hundreds of sheep crashed on the O'Connell Road, south of Bathurst, on Tuesday.
Police and the SES were called to the scene of the crash about five kilometres from the Mutton Falls Road turnoff.
A number of sheep died instantly in the crash after the driver lost control of the B-double truck.
Chifley Police District Chief Inspector Glen Cogdell said officers were called to the crash at around 10.10am on Tuesday.

"It was a single vehicle crash, a fully laden semi-trailer rolled," he said.
The driver was not injured in the crash and declined assistance from paramedics.
Chief Inspector Cogdell said the B-double was carrying 560 sheep. Some died instantly while others sustained injuries and will be euthanised.

A motorist who just passed the crash site said it appeared the driver lost control of the B-double on a corner and rolled.
"It's on the Bathurst side of Oberon Mount, SES are at the scene, there's one lane operating and traffic is stop and go," he said.
"There's a lot of dead and injured sheep."
