There's another hidden local gem, Hyde Park on the Lett River at Hartley, that will be popular with visitors during the coming Summer.
And with increasing popularity comes increasing danger.
The road is seriously potholed and rutted and an obvious risk to users, even if they're not hooning.
But, as with The Walls, hoons do haunt the area day and night at times.
Just recently there was a near disaster when a carelessly driven ute with passengers in the rear tray left the road and ploughed among trees.
When startled residents went to help the passengers freed the ute from the scrub and left in a hurry.
And it's not just hoons that get stuck.
It shouldn't be too difficult to provide a little tender loving care with a grader and strategically placed speed humps.
Hyde Park is a unique and delightful spot but it needs someone to love it.
Just a dollar a tree
THE term 'community' sits nowhere more appropriately than with Lithgow's Community Nursery on the old Hermitage Mine site, a not for profit organisation that has been helping the district environment for years.
Much of the land rehabilitation work around the area has drawn on native stock from this location (think the recent excellent work along Farmers Creek). All next week you can grab a bargain with a nursery sale where you can get eucalypts, some Calistimon Sieberi and Calistimon PItyoides for just a dollar each. Five trees for the cost of a coffee has to be a bargain. Opens 8.30 weekdays, 9am Saturday.
Scams keep coming
BE aware of a new computer scam purporting to be from Telstra and offering '100 lucky customers' a prize if three simple questions are answered in nine seconds. The scary part is the crooks already have your Telstra account details that makes it seem authentic. Don't be tempted.
Morning melodies
HOW good it was to experience the City Band performing in Cook Street Plaza on Saturday morning. Brought a lot of smiles to the CBD as the band musos did their thing in fine style. In years gone by the band played regularly in Main Street on Saturday mornings so are we seeing a revival of a cheerful bygone era?
