Rydal's iconic railway station has been recognised with a highly commended award in the Heritage and Culture section of the Keep Australia Beautiful 2019 Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns awards.

The awards were announced on Saturday, November 2, during a dinner at Cessnock.
Leading up to the Daffodils at Rydal festival in 2019, the Rydal Village Association secured a lease for the station master's residence, which is part of the railway station building, to offer as short term holiday accommodation.
Rydal station is still active and is now one of the stops as part of the daily Bathurst Bullet service.
The station marked its 150th year this year.
The Keep Australia Beautiful NSW (KABNSW) 2019 Overall Tidy Town Award was presented to Murrurundi, qualifying the town to represent NSW in the Keep Australia Beautiful National Tidy Towns Awards.
The Tidy Towns program recognises and rewards the accomplishments of regional councils and their communities, many of whom are volunteers actively working towards making their regional communities a prime model for sustainable practices.

"Sustainable Communities -Tidy Towns is about more than just receiving or giving accolades. It is a great opportunity for towns to showcase their achievements, share with other communities and learn from others," KABNSW CEO, Val Southam said.
"These tireless community efforts are inspiring and are a great example of community spirit in the bush.
"Every year, we receive entries of very high quality and we always look forward to seeing how communities deal with their local environmental challenges."
This year, drought affected communities featured prominently, showing the resilience of communities in working together and supporting each other.
