Lachlan Valley Railway (LVR) will be hosting its third year of spooky, family-fun ghost train rides at Lithgow's Halloween festival.
Each train will board passengers at Lithgow and head to Mount Victoria through ten terrifying tunnels for a two hour round trip.
LVR secretary treasurer and Lithgow Railway Workshop admin manager John Healey said a different train set would run this year.
"It'll be the same sort of thing but a different train set. The last couple of years we've run our little 1920's rail motor sets which allowed 100 people max.
"This year we've got the 1930's MFS Party Cars and FS Compartment Cars," he said.
The bigger set is open planned with a bigger space and can fit around 300 people.
"They're going to be really well decorated and we'll have some spooky music playing, like Michael Jackson's Thriller and Monster Mash on repeat," Mr Healey said.
"We want to get a bit of a party atmosphere going in these ones."
Mr Healey said the other cars in the set known as the compartment cars would be more family friendly.
"We had some feedback from the last couple of years that it was a little too scary for the kids, we were trying not to go too scary but even flicking the lights off and doing spooky noises in the tunnels was too scary...
"So, we do want to give families an option to come and have the ghost train ride and not get freaked out, so we're not going to go too hard with the decorations," he said.
He said parents with little kids should book their ticket in those cars while others looking for a fright should book into the MFS Party Cars.
"We'll be doing our best to try and freak them out," he laughed.
Mr Healey said he looked forward to another year of the ghost train rides and seeing the smiles on peoples faces.
"I don't know why they love it so much, I guess trains do have a bit of a reputation for being a little spooky especially if you turn the lights out, it gets very dark," he said.
Due to infrastructure changes at Mt Victoria, the Halloween shuttles will now go through to Katoomba, according to Mr Healey.
"We've got 10 tunnels each way, that's 20 tunnels so what more could you want on a ghost train?," he said.
Shuttles will be running at 2.30pm, 4.30pm and 6.45pm.
"I was a little bit conscious of taking too many people away from the festival if we ran a night train but there's so many people and we sold out last year and ended up putting extra trains on," Mr Healey said.
All passengers must arrive at the station at least 15 mins prior to departure. Tickets can be purchased at www.123tix.com.au/events/6039/lithgow-halloween-ghost-trains
