Lithgow City Councillor Cassandra Coleman said she has been encouraged by strides towards gender equality of representation on the Central Coast during a recent Australian Local Government Women's Association (ALGWA NSW) tour.

"Here on the Coast they are making great strides, 40 per cent of the elected Councillors are women. That is higher than the current national average of 35 per cent," Cr Coleman, who is the orgsanisation president, said.
Cr Coleman said ALGWA's vision for Local Government was for 50 per cent of elected representatives and leaders in councils to be women.

Mayor Lisa Matthews, who was elected to the Board last year, said one of her first orders of business was to get the ALGWA Board to come to the Central Coast.
"Encouraging and promoting women into leadership roles is a key passion of mine, which is why I stood for the Board in the first place," Mayor Matthews said.
"I am hoping that having this important meeting here on the Central Coast will inspire more women to consider running in the next Local Government elections in September 2020."
"It is also great for our local economy too as I am taking the opportunity to show the ALGWA Board members just what the Coast has to offer for visitors."
