The latest recruit said he had always looked up to the Fire and Rescue teams.

"It has always been my dream to be in Fire and Rescue, I've always looked up to them and I was lucky enough to find this opportunity and get in," he said.

Mr Baysa completed his training in Wellington in September and during his first week on the job was sent out to the Lidsdale fires.

"We were one of the first responders to that fire, it was a really good experience for me just jumping in the deep end," he said.

Despite the experience, Mr Baysa said he still had a lot to learn.

"Since we not only handle fire but do rescue, HAZMAT, there is still a lot of room to learn and being around these good guys I can really learn a lot," he said.

Mr Baysa moved from the Philippines to the Lithgow area with his family in July 2018, when he started working at Three Tree Lodge as a support worker.

"Since I work shift work that allows me to do both jobs," he said.

Mr Baysa said the station was still recruiting for more people in the department.

"It's not a full time job, so people are only available when they aren't working and they have their own families so it's all about balance," he said.

Mr Baysa said he felt honoured to be able to help protect the community from any dangers that may arise.

"I'm thankful for our station who have accepted me and have been very helpful in helping me learn," he said.
